Big Lou’s Homemade Pan Bread – Original Version

Servings: 10



  1. Mix yeast and warm water in cup and then place in large bowl. Add 2 cups warm water and mix.

  2. Add salt, sugar, oil and egg – mix well.

  3. Gradually add 6-7 cups flour to make a soft dough. 

    • Knead until soft and elastic. 
    • Place in greased, large bowl. 
    • Cover.
  4. Let rise in warm place till double in bulk - approximately 1-2 hours. 

  5. When dough has doubled, cut into small balls and place in 9x13 greased pan.

    OPTIONAL:  Cut in half and place in 2 greased loaf pans

  6. Cover and let rise again until doubled. 

    • Preheat oven to 350.
    • Bake at 350 approximately 30 minutes or till golden brown (between 205 and 210 degrees on instant read thermometer). 
    • Brush top with butter while still hot.
