Aunt Claire’s Brownies

Ingredients
  • 4 quarts chocolate (4 squares unsweetened chocolate)
  • 10 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs (large)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup nuts (optional but delicious)
Instructions
  1. Melt chocolate and butter together, either in double boiler or carefully in microwave.

  2. Stir in sugar
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each egg.

  4. Add vanilla

  5. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder.

  6. Stir into chocolate mixture.

  7. Bake in prepared 9 x 13 inch pan at 325 for 45 minutes or less; or at 350 for 35 minutes more or less - until toothpick comes out clean.  Do not overbake.
